The size of the ovarian cysts can vary from a little pea size to that of soccer balls. Some cysts can grow so big that they start creating pressure on other organs; such as when a cyst starts putting pressure on the bladder you might find that you need to urinate more often or that you feel the urge to urinate more often.
Generally speaking, surgery isn’t recommended for ovarian cysts unless they’re larger than 50 to 60 millimeters (mm) (about 2 to 2.4 inches) in size. However, this guideline can vary. For instance, a simple cyst may be left alone until it’s 10 cm (4 inches) in size. And cancerous cysts may be removed when they’re much smaller.
Results: There were 110 patients analyzed: 85 with advanced disease, 25 with early stage. The average measurement was 4.8 cm in advanced disease, and was 10.7 cm in early stage disease. This difference was statistically significant (p<0.001).
